One library, moving deliberately across devices
Shadow supports Baidu Netdisk and Google Drive. A cloud library is both the shared source for multiple devices and the foundation for handling large collections. It is not the same as opening a cloud folder after mounting or syncing it locally.
Sync and update have clear directions
Shadow synchronizes library operations across tags, folders, metadata, and asset files. The editing device publishes with Sync; the next device reads the remote state with Update Library, making handoffs explicit and conflicts detectable.
Index, thumbnail, and original
A lightweight index enables folders and search first, thumbnails load during browsing, and originals arrive only for viewing, sharing, or editing.
Large libraries need not download in full
Unlike mounted or synced-folder workflows that rely on local file hydration, Shadow uses provider APIs and keeps only the necessary index and accessed-content cache locally.
How Shadow uses Baidu Netdisk and Google Drive
Shadow requests authorization only when you choose to connect Baidu Netdisk or Google Drive. Both providers use the same library workflow in Shadow: browse cloud folders, locate and open an existing `.library`, read assets and thumbnails, import cloud assets, create a new library, and synchronize changes made in Shadow back to that library.
Shadow uses cloud access only for library-management actions you initiate. Cloud files and requests travel directly between the Shadow app and the selected provider; they are not uploaded to a Shadow-operated server. Authorization tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain, and you can revoke access in Shadow or the corresponding cloud-account settings.

Privacy and files

Do I need Eagle to use Shadow?
No. You can create a new library directly in Shadow. Eagle library compatibility is a core feature, but not the only way to use the app.
Do cloud libraries have to be fully downloaded first?
No. Shadow imports the library index first, loads thumbnails as you browse, and downloads an original when you open that asset. A small index and cache still use device space, and offline content must be cached in advance.
Should I back up libraries before editing?
Yes. Any operation that writes to a valuable library should first be tested with a backup, especially when using cloud storage, external drives, or multiple devices.
